چکیده

The design and development of bio-inspired ultrasonic systems particularly that of some species of bats, has received the most attention due to the potential benefit of application in the field of biomedical engineering and robotics. In this paper an ultrasonic based device for the emulation of bat’s echo-location system, by means of piezo-polymer sensors and a neural network, capable to perform brain activity tasks during ranging and navigation, is presented. The acquisition and processing of echo signals, according to bat’s behavior, is performed by a first level of circuits emulating basilar membrane and hair cells inside the cochlea in which, ultrasounds transmission and reception occur, and a second level (neural network) for time of flight evaluation. The complete system has been designed, developed, and implemented onto dsPIC for real time application according to tasks performed by bio-sonar apparatus. Keywords— Sonar application; Ultrasonic Transducers; Biomimetics; Neural Networks; Microcontroller; Electronics.

A Novel Method for Ultrasonic Evaluation of Horizontal Defects Using Time-of-Flight Diffraction

Time-of-flight diffraction method (ToFD) is an amplitude-independent sizing method which is based on the measurement of time-of-flight of defect tip diffracted waves. Although ToFD can measure through-wall length of defect accurately, this method is not capable of measuring horizontal defect size. In this paper, a new ToFD method for evaluating horizontal planar defects is presented. The finite...

Solar Energy System Design of Ultralight Aircraft for Smoke Detection and Fire Alarm Proposes

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to design and evaluate the construction of a lightweight solar aircraft that is capable of flying continuously for 24 hours relying solely on solar energy. The required energy is absorbed during the day by solar panels, some is used directly for flight, and the excess energy is stored in the aircraft battery for overnight flight. The aircraft will then be ...
